“I made my confirmation…so, what’s next?”
Father Eric and his committee of teens, parents, staff and clergy are proud to present Ablaze High School Catholic Club to our parish in the Fall of 2017.
This program, designed by teens for teens, invites our newly confirmed students to gather for social activities like volleyball or bowling, and to also gather to discuss issues that tug at our hearts. Ablaze allows students to invite their faith into all aspects of their lives. Now that we’ve been confirmed, let’s learn to walk with Jesus as a true disciple.
Registration events are being held from 6:37-8 p.m. on July 26 & 28 at the parish hall. Confirmed teens and their parents are invited to learn about this new approach to “youth ministry” and to register for the inaugural year.
We’ll kick off and amp up on Aug. 16 and 23rd with Burgerfest and Prayerfest. Get more details at www.ablazeclub.com.
What is Ablaze?
Ablaze High School Catholic Club is a new program from Good Shepherd Catholic Parish that centers around Weekly meetings that offer parish teens an opportunity to have fun and build friendships, ask tough questions, serve the community and grow our relationship with God.
We will rotate between a fun social meeting one week and a spiritual meeting the next. We will also take a few big road trips throughout the year that we can’t wait to announce!
Our favorite part is that Ablaze is run by high schoolers for high schoolers (with the assistance of our youth minister and volunteers of course!)
When is Ablaze?
We meet weekly at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays. Many times, we will gather at the Good Shepherd Parish Hall at 506 N. Garden Street, Visalia, but we will also meet at various other locations in Visalia for fellowship opportunities. A full schedule will be available at www.ablazeclub.com by the beginning of the school year.
Who is Ablaze for?
Our Wednesday Night Ablaze Club is for High School students who have completed the Confirmation Program. If you haven’t started or completed confirmation yet, you’re invited you to join our Golden West Campus Club, Family of Faith Program or Confirmation Program. These programs will join Ablaze on some of the fun social activities you won’t want to miss.
Is Ablaze a continuation of Confirmation Program?
We like to think of Ablaze as the next step in your spiritual growth. We aren’t a sacramental class like Confirmation, but we are here to meet you and walk alongside you as you take the next steps in your life. There is no “end-goal” in Ablaze. Ablaze is about living your life and bringing your faith to the center of it all.
Is Ablaze mandatory?
Nope! Ablaze is an opportunity for you to have fun and grow. While we require registration (for safety), there is nothing else mandatory about this group.
What if I miss an Ablaze night or event?
We’ll miss you! But no big deal, we know you’ve got school, homework, soccer practice, dance rehearsal, chores, crazy family stuff….we get it! Ablaze is set up for you to join us when you can. If you miss a few weeks here and there, no big deal, you will be able to jump right back in…and we’ll all be really happy to see you back!
Can I bring my friends to Ablaze?
We are stoked that you love Ablaze so much you want to invite your friends! They are welcome to join us, please just be sure they register as a guest at www.ablazeclub.com ahead of time. Can’t wait to meet them!
How much does Ablaze cost?
To register for Ablaze we ask you to pay a $29.95 registration fee. This covers the cost of your welcome kit. Our pastor has generously offered to cover a lot of the cost of this program, but we do ask you to pay for some of our social events, like bowling or field trips. Each event is priced differently and you can find out more at ablazeclub.com as the events get closer. Can’t afford to attend something? Don’t worry and don’t miss out, talk to our Youth Minister and we’ll see how we can help!
Will there be supervision?
Yes, our Youth Minister and other adult volunteers will be around to maintain a safe environment and provide the club members with the supplies and information they need for each session. All staff and volunteers are safe environment trained through the Diocese and are catechized in the Catholic Church.
What about volunteers?
If someone in your family is interested in volunteering, please have him or her contact our Youth Minister by calling the parish office at 559-730-7973.
